HASTAC Lock-Down
If all goes well, when we are all back from our 4th of July break this week, we'll be locking the old HASTAC site down as preparation for the final migration of content to our new beta-site, to launch at the end of this week. That means, no new HASTAC members this week, no more comments, no more blog postings. The site will look static on your screen. But, behind the scenes, we'll be crossing our fingers, rubbing rabbits' feet, and doing anything else necessary to ensure a successful transfer of the remaining data to the new site. Then, next week, we will open and invite all of you--and THAT MEANS ALL OF YOU!--to update profiles, load new content, tell us about your events, and in other ways participate in a site that is far more hospitable and geared to information-sharing, networking, and interaction than this one.
I won't say any more because those who have led us to this pass will be writing this week about the new site. Over the summer, we will be improving it, and relying on you to help us in that process. We know for sure that a main area of our attention will be interfaces that make more apparent the various ways you can contribute to the site. There are many tools on the new site that aren't apparent to the eye, so we'll be rolling those out over the course of the summer.
Given that we had a very limited budget, this has been a labor of love driven by Mandy Dailey and Mark Olson, with Ruby Sinreich now taking over too. So, please, cross your fingers, wish us luck, and hopefully HASTAC will have a new site for all of us to share in a week or so. Ten . . .nine . . . eight . . .
