In a few minutes, I'm headed to the first event of ScienceOnline '09, the annual science communication conference of the Research Triangle Area. You may recall that I liveblogged the event last year, beginning with this lab tour. This year, our fearless organizers, Anton Zuiker, Bora Zivkovic, and a small army of other volunteers, have expanded the conference into the 2.5 day schedule you can read on the conference wiki here.

The first event today is appropriate for the frigid weather we have experienced of late in NC: the science of coffee cupping, held at Counter Culture Coffee's HQ. I'll report back later today, but first I want to take this opportunity to thank everyone who sponsored this great (and still free) conference: Burroughs Wellcome Fund, North Carolina Biotechnology Center, North Carolina Museum of Life and Science, Sigma Xi (for the use of their lovely digs), Science in the Triangle, JMP Software, Blogads, Enrico Maria Balli, and The Research Triangle Foundation. Thank you for making this event possible!
