Mark Olson is Assistant Professor in the Department of Art, Art History and Visual Studies at Duke University and former Director of New Media & Information Technologies for HASTAC (Humanties, Arts, Sciences & Technology Advanced Collaboratory). His research interests include media studies (new & old; theory, practice, history) and visual studies/cultural studies of medicine and technology. He received his PhD in 2009 from the Department of Communication Studies at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, where he completed a dissertation on the impact of robotics on contemporary surgical practice and pedagogy.
