BIOGRAPHY

Although he has always had a keen interest in history, Richard Mehlinger decided to study computer science and pursue a career in software development at Harvey Mudd in Claremont, California. While there, he came to realize just how much he enjoyed the historian's craft and therefore decided to pursue an additional degree in history in conjunction with Claremont McKenna College, one of Harvey Mudd's sister colleges within the Claremont University Consortium. He thus ended his undergraduate career with a B.S. in computer science and history. He has recently completed an M.A. in history at UC Riverside, with a particular interest in the history of games.

Richard's recent scholarship includes a lengthy paper examining the relationship between avant garde art and the hypermodern school of chess in the early 20th century, and a paper examining pre-1914 British war gaming. He is also in the process of redesigning his department's website, and would greatly appreciate any ideas for banner images that readers might send his way. In his spare time, he enjoys blues and swing dancing, strategy games of all sorts, writing the occasional blog post, and playing the part of devil's advocate.

Richard can be reached via email at rmehlinger@gmail.com.
