HASTAC in the Wayback Machine
Imagine my amazement when I learned last summer that HASTAC.org being part of an educational institution means that the entire site - I'm talking about every single page, of which there are almost 5,000 - is printed out annually so that it can be part of the formal collection at Duke University Archives. In the past this laborious task would fall on the shoulders of some poor intern (if we're lucky) but this year, through the magic of modern technology (imagine that, my geeky friends) the University has developed a tool for electronic archiving of digital materials.
I was pleased to see that Duke is using Archive-It to accomplish this. Archive-It allows institutions to systematically create their own collections that automatically become part of the nonprofit Internet Archive's wonderful, public Wayback Machine. You can see the archive of hastac.org at http://wayback.archive-it.org/1858/*/http://www.hastac.org/. Due to some of the more elaborate (and annoying, ahem, I'm working on it) Javascript used on the site some images are not able to be included in the archive.
I reviewed the archive and was entirely impressed with it. I found a few bugs in the display of some user profiles, and reported these to the Duke Archivist. But there's no way that I (or even the handful of us on staff at HASTAC) can thoroughly review the entire thing, so we thought you, dear readers, might like to help.
Please have a look around the archive and report back in the comments or to me directly (ruby.s at duke.org) if you find any important content missing.
