HASTAC.org to be frozen Monday, new site launches Tuesday!
We have been promising/threatening to launch a new HASTAC website for many months now, and the time has finally come. A little after 9:00am Monday (July 25th) hastac.org will be "frozen" so that no content can be added or edited, there will be some brief downtime as everything is exported, and then the great migration will begin. We expect the transition and behind the scenes preparation to take all day. By noon on Tuesday, we will flip the domain switch and make the shiny new site public.
Many of you know the saga of the current site, launched in a state of note-quite-readyness after losing faith in our developer's ability to fix the problems they had created. Almost exactly a year ago, we released the Request for Proposals soliciting developers who would work to build a whole new hastac.org. After vetting 20 proposals and interviewing several talented finalists, we chose Philadelphia-based Message Agency. After working together over 8 long and challenging months, we know we made the right choice. MA has been very understanding of HASTAC's unniqueness, and worked very hard to accomodate our needs. We hope to continue working with them for years ot come.
In addition to your patience with the site's lack of interactivity on Monday, I'd also like to ask that if you have any non-urgent requests of HASTAC staff members, please hold them until Tuesday as the entire team is wirkong hard to deal with the many moving parts of this transition from content to usability.
