A message from Victoria Szabo of the Information Science + Information Studies Program at Duke:

"I'm writing to invite you to submit work to SIGGRAPH 2009's Information Aesthetics Showcase, a new gallery experience I am organizing for the conference in New Orleans in August 2009. We will be looking for exciting work that combines data and visuals or other media and interactions to create compelling, informative pieces where the art illuminates the data and the data drives the artistry. The IA Showcase grew out of my work on the SIGGRAPH Art Gallery juries, where we'd see interesting data driven and visualization work that deserved attention, but didn't necessarily fit the gallery themes we were exploring. That experience, coupled with the increasing visibility of data graphics (witness the election cycle coverage! magic boards! holograms!) in mass culture suggested that this was the right time to highlight this complex and emerging field at SIGGRAPH.

So, please submit your 2d, 3d, screen-based, and installation work for consideration. I'm happy to answer any questions you may have about the IA Showcase; please feel free to forward this info to anyone who might be interested as well. Also if you'd like to get more involved with developing the show itself let me know!"
