The George Lucas Educational Foundation seeks an experienced and
motivated Research Analyst to identify rigorous research studies,
analyze results in the context of Edutopia's mission to show what's
working in K-12 education (including identifying model programs,
schools, districts and networks), and collaborate with Edutopia staff
to creatively use digital media to communicate research findings to
Edutopia's diverse audience of change makers in education--teacher
leaders, administrators, colleges of education, policy makers and
active parents.

This position, based in northern San Rafael, CA, and will report to
the Editorial Director and work closely with the Content and Community
departments.

Primary Responsibilities:

I. Program Development:

  * Identify, analyze and concisely summarize evidence-based research
findings of best practices, trends and replicable models in K-12
learning for Edutopia coverage and for enhancement of our popular
archival coverage

  * Create briefs summarizing existing research about what's working
in education -- prepare independently and in collaboration with other
team members. Ensure that the information speaks to practical needs
and aspirations of Edutopia's innovation-minded audience and is
accessible in a social media format

  * Maintain an internal database of information and trends related
to Edutopia coverage to identify common themes, emerging issues and
cross-cutting strategies of special interest to the Edutopia audience

II. Organizational Capacity Development:

  * Conduct outreach and maintain contact and/or collaboration with
leading organizations and expert advisors working on improving the
learning process, and identifying successful, evidence-based
strategies that can be replicated. Share knowledge with the GLEF team
to help build a better understanding of school evaluation research

  * Participate in regular team meetings, collaborate on grant
proposals, and other duties as assigned

III. Dissemination & Outreach:

  * Effectively present information internally and externally
(meetings, conferences, webinars, member updates, online, community,
social media posts, etc)

Job Requirements:

Education / Experience:

  * Advanced degree (M.A., Ph.D., Ed.D.) or equivalent in education,
or a related discipline

  * Expertise with best practices in K-12 education, and
understanding of relevant research, issues and trends in learning
environments that are successfully cultivating 21st century skills

  * Ideal candidates must have blogging experience, social media
experience, and a successful track-record for engaging an audience

Skills/ Competencies:

  * A mix of strong analytical, research, writing, editing, and
communication skills, with an emphasis on quantitative analysis and
interpretation and presentation of quantitative data in a jargon-free
and accessible format to lay audiences

  * Familiarity with major sources of national and state education
data, especially those focused on K-12 education

  * Excellent project management skills in individual and group work
situations, including demonstrated ability to manage multiple
short-range and long-term projects
simultaneously and meet all deadlines

  * Proven ability to communicate effectively with a variety of
groups including technical, professional, and executive audiences

  * Proven ability to sustain collaborative relationships, forge
partnerships, and build consensus within a diverse community of
practice. Ability to work well independently and to know when to
include others. Strong interpersonal skills and a keen sense of
collegiality

  * Proven ability to handle both broad and detail-oriented work,
achieving tangible results. Agility in work style and ability to
change priorities, adjusting to current conditions

  * Comfort with and enthusiasm for diverse mechanisms for finding,
creating, sharing, and disseminating digital content online

  * Social Networking: strong interpersonal and communication skills
and the ability to work effectively with a wide range of
constituencies in a diverse community; act as ambassador and liaison
for Edutopia with the Internet community

  * Expertise in using Excel to collect, organize, and clean data
(ability to do so in Access and/or SQL a plus)

  * Experience with proposal/grant development and writing, a plus
