With the world economy facing turbulent times and individual countries rethinking how they and their citizens can flourish in the global marketplace, many would argue that the importance of enterprise education has never been greater. But does this mean teaching people how to write a business plan or is it about gaining a broader set of skills essential to success in the 21st Century?

With the world economy facing turbulent times and individual countries rethinking how they and their citizens can flourish in the global marketplace, many would argue that the importance of enterprise education has never been greater. But does this mean teaching people how to write a business plan or is it about gaining a broader set of skills essential to success in the 21st Century?

The Pearson Centre for Policy and Learning, in partnership with the Education & Employers Taskforce, is initiating a new research project exploring enterprise education and would like to invite you to share your views on the subject as part of an initial stakeholder consultation.

This research will explore three key questions:

  • What is enterprise education?
  • What impact does it have?
  • How should it be delivered?

Our research approach has three phases: mapping current knowledge, data and expert opinion; gathering new evidence to fill in some of the gaps; and then finally producing actionable recommendations that are of relevance to UK policy and beyond. A one page summary of the research can be found here.

There are three ways you can help us at this stage in the research:

  1. Respond to the three consultation questions online here (at most a single A4 sheet)
  2. Provide contact details of relevant stakeholders we should consult (or forward this page to them)
  3. Tell us about any other relevant research for our initial literature review

Findings from the first phase of research will be used to produce an interim report, launching 4-6pm on Monday 14th November in London (please save the date, details to follow).

New primary research, both qualitative and quantitative, will then be carried out in phase two with learners, educators and employers. If you or your organisation might be interested in helping us reach these groups then please let us know.

Thank you in advance for your support with this project, questions and comments are most welcome by email or in the comments section below.

Hello HASTAC!

This is my first interaction with the network so constructive feedback very much appreciated!

I recently encountered HASTAC through this excellent article by Cathy Davidson in the Times Higher and am interested in engaging with the network to help shape our different research projects in the Centre, I'm starting by detailing our new 'enterprise education' project and would love to get input from people for phase one of the research. Pearson is a big and powerful player in education, I'm keen to see how the Centre can help it make the right choices in the future.

Happy to answer questions or provide further info.
