René Garcia
(VJ Cyops) ?ReMix2?
Performance artist and VJ René Garcia (VJ Cyops) creates a live remix of video and soundscapes to propel us through critiques of race, terrorism, and the neo-surveillance state to a dance-hall evening of community, activism, and resistance.
René Garcia is a Mexican artist born in California and presently based in Los Angeles. He creates digitally enhanced and electronically mediated works that explore political themes through performance, video, audio, installations and public art. His work explores the evolving convergence between human bodies and new technologies, with some pieces focusing on terrified and terrorized bodies while others humorously explore the hyperbolic discourse around cyberspace. A recipient of a Creative Capital award, the Portrero Nuevo Fund Prize, and other grants and prizes, Mr. Garcia?s performances and videos have been performed and screened at museums and universities across the U.S.
Spinning alongside VJ Cyops is DJ RasMusis, a self-described vibe collider, sonic controller, and audience maneuverer. He has done sound installations in New York City, Brooklyn, North Carolina and other points on the east coast. Using music that he has created in various guises (HyMettus Woods, Odd International, Plural I, and Razor Wire Safety Net) among others, RasMusis creates a complete aural environment.
