Blogs, Martha Stewart-approved
Although I don't own a TV, I do enjoy wasting an occasional evening in front of a Law & Order Box. Catsitting gave me such an occasion on Tuesday, and I happened upon The Martha Stewart Show. She opened with a segment on blogging, and caught my attention because her informal survey of the audience indicated that half of her studio audience that day didn't know what a blog was (perhaps similar figures for her audience watching at home?). But Martha has all the answers, and she conveniently explained what they were all about, and had several crafty bloggers on hand. They included Hostess with the Mostess, Smitten Kitchen, Pink of Perfection, and Style Me Pretty. Feel free to click on through, but I have no illusions that I'll provide 1/1000000th of the traffic that Martha did. :)
Ever the slick marketer, she also plugged her own MySpace page (http://www.myspace.com/marthastewart), full of photos from her travels and parties as well as Youtube videos with show bloopers. (She has 2,335 friends right now, not as much an internets celebrity as on TV.) She said of blogging, " ... if 100 million people know your name and go into your page, then they can read what you've said." I felt like the smiling bloggers in attendance were in training to become the next household name, for 100 million people to follow their every word. Another of her comments was, "Do you consider it art? I do." Well, it may or may not be, but her viewers probably will say it is now. Blog on, Martha.
