Bola C. King is a Ph.D. candidate in the Department of English at the University of California, Santa Barbara, and holds a B.S. from Iowa State University and an M.A. from the University of Northern Iowa. In addition to the Ph.D., he is also completing UCSB's Doctoral Emphasis in Technology and Society through the university's Center for Information Technology and Society. To this end, his dissertation focuses on the question of how people understand and interact with virtual environments. Bola is also a member of the Bluesky Research Group, a graduate-student subgroup of UCSB's Social Computing Research Group. His fields of interest include virtual worlds research; science fiction and its relationship to emerging technologies; technology in the classroom; and communication and narrative theories.
