Brief Bio: I teach, work in, and write about social media. My research interests are: the affordances of face-to-face in the mediated classroom, hybrid and mobile learning environments, DIY, and 21st-century literacies. Formerly an Assoc. Prof. of Writing Instruction at the University of Southern California, I now teach advanced social media at USC's Annenberg School of COMM and Washington State Univ./Vancouver's Creative Media and Digital Culture program. I'm co-curating a the first-ever show of electronic literature at the 2012 Convention of the Modern Languages Assn.
Full Bio: I like to make things: live events; websites, apps and other media objects; learning environments. I am keenly interested in face-to-face learning in the mediated classroom, and I'm studying it this fall (2011) as I teach 2 advanced social media classes in hybrid settings at two different universities. I earned my Ph.D. at UC Berkeley in English Literature. I taught comp full time--earning the rank of Assoc. Prof. of Writing Instruction--at the University of Southern California. I'm a Distinguished Fellow at USC's Center for Excellence in Teaching, where I was the first non-tenure track Fellow.
