I grew up in southern Ontario and received my BA in Sociology and Political Science at the University of Toronto in 2009.
Currently, I am housed in the Department of Sociology at the University of Washington in Seattle, though my academic work draws from a variety of disciplines such as history of science and technology, literary criticism, women’s and gender studies, and geography. I bring these perspectives to bear on my research interests in trans* and queer politics, embodiment, sexuality, and technologies.
I recently completed my master’s thesis, an inquiry into the practice of gender segregation in public bathrooms. Using group interview methods, I sought to understand the discourses that arise when people are confronted with the possibilities of configuring public bathroom spaces in new and previously unimagined ways, alternatives which threaten cherished classifications and taken-for-granted social boundaries.
