Viola is a PhD student at the University of Southern California’s English department and Institute for Multimedia Literacy. She received her MA in English from San Francisco State University; her thesis, Materiality Matters: Literature, the Archive, and the Self in a Digital Landscape, analyzes the Walt Whitman Archive and discusses how a poetics of digital textuality must engage the multifarious materialities of a text. Viola currently works in the intersections of 19th-20th century American literature, digital humanities, archive theory, and film.
